The exhibition "La Pintura y sus Alrededores [en torno a la Galerie nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder de Viena] / Painting and its Surroundings [about the Galerie nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder in Vienna]", curated by Juan Manuel Bonet, took place in 2009 at the Palacio de Sástago in Zaragoza, Spain. The exhibition documented in this catalogue has been designed based on the exernplary activities of the Galerie nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder in Vienna over the last three decades. lt was an exhibition of contemporary art but, due to Vienna's position at the heart of the history of European culture and the particular features of the Grünangergasse gallery which we tried to evoke, and to what we might call its prehistory, it was also an exhibition about art history, about the history of ideas. With works by Adam Adach, Josef Albers, Carl Andre, Polly Apfelbaum, John Armleder, Herbert Brandl, Ernst Caramelle, Heinrich Dunst, Helmut Federle, Bernard Frize, Rainer Ganahl, Katharina Grosse, Donald Judd, Agnieszka Kalinowska, Imi Knoebel, Lee Ufan, Sol LeWitt, Joseph Marioni, Agnes Martin, Isa Melsheimer, Gerhard Merz, Manfred Pernice, Gerhard Richter, Gerwald Rockenschaub, Reiner Ruthenbeck, Karin Sander, Jörg Sasse, Adrian Schiess, Jessica Stockholder, Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Günter Umberg, James Welling.
